In March of 1993, I visited Yucatan, Mexico, with a small group of spiritual seekers. We were on a bus tour of three or four sites. The Temple of the Magician at Uxmal was the first pyramid we visited.
The weather was clear and warm. I climbed to the top with another woman. Both of us gravitated to the backside of the pyramid where a large open terrace faced the lower buildings extending out from its base. We walked to the outer edge of the area and sat with our legs dangling over the side. I could feel the warm stone under my legs as I enjoyed the vista.
We began to sing a Sanskrit chant and continued singing for fifteen minutes or better. As we sang we noticed that there were swallows beginning to gather. The birds seemed to be coming out of the low buildings below us. As more and more gathered, they flew wide circles over our heads, seemingly dancing on the tones of our song. I have an abiding love for birds; the sight was deeply pleasing.
After awhile, I lay down on my back to look up into the swirl of what must have approached one hundred birds. As I gazed upwards, my frame of vision cleared quite abruptly. Then, I saw four pairs of birds fly a distinct pattern over my reclined body. Each pair flew side-by-side, independently, their wings nearly touching. The first two pairs flew from my head to my feet. The second two pairs flew from my left side to my right. Head to foot; head to foot; left to right; left to right; then the swirling cloud of countless birds returned. No matter how distracted I might have been, I could not have missed this “crossing” that occurred over me.
While we experienced our bird adventure, others at the base of the pyramid noticed this unusual sight and climbed to see what was going on. Many took pictures that showed not only the birds, but also small energy balls of light swirling among them. It struck us that some of the ancient Mayans had manifested to say hello.

About Star Child
At about fifteen years of age, I sat in our family living room in Seattle, resting after our fireworks fun on the 4th of July. From somewhere I had picked up a piece of blank paper in one hand, and still grasped a smoldering punk in the other. With no intention and relaxed mind, I began to touch the punk to the paper, watching peacefully as this image emerged. The “Star Child” figure is what appeared in my hands that night.
Although its significance remains a bit of a mystery, I have treasured his company over the years. To look upon it continues to bring a deep warmth and sense of joy to my Being.
The image was used at the beginning of each chapter in our first book, "Dance With the Stars," and also presents itself here for your enjoyment.
